Located in Montgomery, NY, Main Street Music and Dance Studio offers classes in Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz
Ballet Lessons
Main Street Music’s Ballet program program follows the public school cut off and each level is age specific. Our younger classes use imagery, story lines and games to teach age appropriate body movements as well as body placement, alignment, weigh placement, terminology and proper classroom conduct. Your child will learn traditional ballet with a teaching style made for today’s generation of kids. Ballet class will prepare a younger dancer for the demands of Modern when they reach the correct age. Our older student classes encourage our dancers to listen and respond to their own unique bodies. Ballet focuses on symmetry, poise and lift form the core; Ballet will tell a story about fairies, princesses and dolls that come to life.

Main Street Music’s Jazz and Tap program follows the public school cut off and each level is age specific. Your child may begin jazz and tap at the age 6 or 1st grade in school. Each level uses imagery, story lines and games to provide appropriate body movements as well as covering body placement, technique, stylization, rhythm and musicality. As the levels progress new complex material is combined with the previous levels work. It is our strong recommendation that for maximum progress each dancer take a minimum of one ballet class per week. This will give your child the basic fundamentals of good line, placement and musicality. Year End Show preparation will begin in March. Dances will be choreographed based on the class work learned during the school year.
Jazz Dance Lessons
Jazz is a broad term for many of today’s popular dance styles. You can find jazz in T.V. commercials and shows such as ‘Glee’, as well as on Broadway and at school dances. Our jazz classes will cover many of these styles including lyrical, street jazz, funk, and hip-hop. Techniques will be based on the masters who created the styles; Charles Kelly, Gus Giordano, Matt Mattox and Bob Fosse. Classes are structured in the traditional jazz format; Isolations, stretching, dance technique, progressive movements, combination or dance routine.

Tap Dance Lessons
Tap is a broad term for many of today’s popular tap styles. You can find tap in Broadway shows, in T.V. commercials, and movies such as ‘Happy Feet’. Our tap classes will cover many of these styles including American tap dance, rhythm tap and hoofing. The focus of each tap class is to improve the student’s sound clarity, rhythm and musicality, timing and phrasing. Classes are structured in the traditional tap format; warm-up exercises, technique and progressive movements, combination or dance routine.

Modern Dance Lessons
Modern is the polar opposite of ballet. While ballet focuses on symmetry, poise and lift form the core; modern works on asymmetry, a connection to the ground and body contractions. Each Modern class is age specific. Each level provides students with the opportunity to explore moving in different levels and planes in space, using their spine fully (in all directions), and exposure to a wide variety of musical styles. Students also periodically explore creating their own dance compositions or creating variations of the combinations they learn in class.
